The Scope Galactic News Network’s Alton Haveri reported today that a Wyvern supercarrier belonging to the Wiyrkomi Peace Corps was boarded and stolen by Dread Guristas in a daring raid. The supercarrier Antero was ‘moored’ outside the Wiyrkomi Peace Corps Logistic Support station in Ossa where it was being refitted and its crew was being exchanged. Using a stratagem reminiscent of Odysseus’ Trojan Horse, a small Gurista assault team – no doubt the best of the Gurista military – gained access to the ship in a stolen shuttle posing as maintenance workers. One can imagine the ship’s Security Officer saying ‘It’s an older code sir, but it checks out.’ No doubt this officer is now dead.
They then took over the hangar controls and ejected the departing crew into space by lowering the hangar force fields. The arriving crew was prevented from entering the hangar by changing the passcode for the hangar force fields. Gurista reinforcements then arrived – in Taipans, according to the Scope video – to complete the takeover of the ship. Although Wiyrkomi ships in the area converged on and attacked the supercarrier, the Gurista boarding party managed to jump the ship out to an unknown location.
Alton Haveri then goes on to state that this is the latest of a series of embarrassing incidents to plague the Caldari megacorps, the last being the total destruction of Lai Dai convoy LD-75 two months ago. Invoking confidential sources, Haveri claims that these incidents are the result of an ongoing internal power struggle in the Caldari state which could escalate even further in the future.
It is interesting to note that this event incorporates the capture of a ship by boarding with assault troops, a subject that has been broached by players many times in the past. We also get some glimpses of the actual importance of ship’s crews in the game, something that we as capsuleers take for granted. And we must not overlook the ‘mooring’ of the supercarrier to the station, something that will no doubt become a common feature in the not too distant future with the new structures CCP plans to introduce.
So the Dread Guristas have now acquired a Wyvern supercarrier. The speculation is now open as to what this forebodes for the game. What Dread Gurista improvements will they make to the ship? What will they use it for? What new and terrible disaster will the Voice of Doom Alton Haveri report next?
