The newest Dev post by CCP FoxFour is all about SKINs. The last release of Carnyx brought with it four new SKINs, one for each of the Marauder class of ships : the Police SKIN for the Kronos, the Blood Raider SKIN for the Paladin, the Thukker Tribe SKIN for the Vargur, and the Kaalakiota SKIN for the Golem.
Starting June 9th, CCP will begin releasing on a weekly interval SKINs for the Sisters of EVE ships: the Astero, Stratios, and Nestor. The new ‘Sanctuary’ SKINs for these ships give their visual flavor some polarity with a dark thallium color very much the opposite of their default bright white. The Sisters of EVE ‘Sanctuary’ SKINs can all be viewed via this gallery as well as the new Marauder SKINs

CCP FoxFour also in the dev blog goes over the future of SKINs which gives hope to those wanting to break the mold of the classical, and designated aesthetics by introducing ‘designer SKINs’. The ‘designer SKINs’ according to CCP FoxFour are “made by corporations or people in New Eden that are setup for the sole purpose of designing dramatic or unique looking SKINs.” This will allow the creators of SKINs to have much greater freedom of design, somewhat eliminating the need to be stuck with the inherit aesthetics already in place for the ships hull, or its faction’s corporations.
A look at one of the new ‘designer SKINs’
Why can’t we just use the existing SKINs, and allow players to attach them to any ship like they were (when bugged) before? CCP FoxFour explains this by stating “While it is technically possible to put any SKIN on any ship in the game…. It is fairly common that SKINs will break when going to tech 2 hulls or especially to capital hulls.” Using visual aids in the dev blog, FoxFour shows us the breaks in SKINs, even within ships of the same faction/race do not line up in a way that meet EVE’s high level of quality. CCP FoxFour does clarify that this doesn’t mean that the existing SKINs will not be available on more ships eventually, and that they will be continuously adding SKINs to the game.
Those wanting to hop into some of the new marauder SKINs, can find them available now in the New Eden Store for 2390 AUR for each and 6990 AUR for a bundle containing one of each.
