Star Citizen’s Social Module module has been released to a small number of players through an update (version 1.2) pushed to the Public Test Universe branch of the game. The social module includes the multiplayer planetary surface environment of “ArcCorp’s Area 18 landing zone”. Emotes, chat (F12 key), and the the augmented reality “mobiGlas” system (F2 key) as key features of this release. The number of players given access to the module will increase over time.
The new module is accessible from the elevators in the hangar module. Characters will now spawn in a random choice of the six character loadouts from Star Marine: Marine and Outlaw Light, Medium, and Heavy. The loadout can be changed with the F6 key in the hangar, but will be permanent for the game session after traveling to ArcCorp.
Not all planned ArcCorp areas are accessible in this update. The accessible areas are:
- ArcCorp Customs
- Medical Bay
- G~Loc Bar
- Dumper’s Depot
- Cubby Blast
Some players that have already patched have found they’re unable to access the new content, being greeted with messages such as “Servers are Full” and “Error 0.” CIG responded on the forums to this complaint saying “We’re aware and investigating this right now as a high priority, as the capacity should definitely be available. But, this is exactly why we limited the invites for this initial release so we can hammer out problems in a little bit more of a controlled setting.”
No public release date for the social module has been announced at the time of publishing.
