The Stage
On February 12, in the Cobalt Edge system of BI0Y-X, an Avatar belonging to Bagana of inPanic was destroyed just outside the comfort of his POS shields. The titan, worth 106.5B ISK, was destroyed when his POS password was leaked, allowing Machariels to slowly bump him into open space.
The Fleet and Personal Accounts
Multiple Pandemic Legion and Hard Knocks Citizens supercarriers were brought into destroy the titan, supported by neuting battleships and heavy interdictors. Once the Machariels had successfully bumped him outside of the shields, the supercarriers were brought in to seal Bagana’s fate.
TMC reached out to Braxus Deninard of HKRAB for comment on the titan kill.
TMC: HKRAB has a lot of success in wormholes. What made you guys come out of J-Space to hunt for titans?
Braxus Deninard: Well, I have been hunting capital fleets with a lot of success in wormholes for quite a long time, but never had much experience out in null. Yesterday (Feb 11) noobman came to me with some intel on a titan logged out in a pos in Cobalt Edge and we decided together that we wanted to put the effort into hunting it. We spent about five hours moving around characters and logging off HICs and bumping Machariels on the POS.
TMC: Did anyone ever see you?
BD: No, we took caution to make sure no one spotted us. After that it was relatively simple: Just wait for the titan to log in and bump him out. Once he logged on we got him out of the POS and he died pretty fast.
TMC: He was inside the POS though right? How did you get into the POS?
BD: We had the POS password for it, which allowed all this to happen.
TMC: Amazing! Where did you get the password from?
BD: I can’t say; however, he had logged of very close to the edge of the force field as well, so he was bumped out rather quickly.
TMC: That seems odd that he, as a titan pilot, would not have been able to change the password and block you all from bumping him. Thanks so much for your comment and good luck hunting!
As simple as this titan kill is, there is a big lesson to learn: Never stage your bus in a POS that you cannot change the password to. Also if you are a bridging titan for your alliance, make sure to pull away from the edge of the POS and get back to your parking spot.
