“This game… you’re not ready for it.”, challenges the EVE is Free trailer that has been released during EVE Vegas. Coming in slightly short of 2 minutes, the trailer mixes voices from EVE players with stunning visuals and in-game footage. In line with the game’s usual marketing strategy, CCP heavily touts the intrigue aspect of the game, as well as its giant space battles. While EVE is probably the most hardcore PvP game in existence, leading the trailer with betrayal and intrigue instead of epic space battles is a bold move. The big paradox of EVE’s marketing is that what is advertised – nullsec PvP – is also the part most people are least likely to get into. I, for one, will be curious to see whether our friendly community of space nerds will ‘correct’ the trailer in the vein of This is REALLY EVE.
EVE: Ascension will be released to the world on Tuesday, November 15, after CCP pushed the date back a week due to bugs. The most prominent feature will be the move to free to play, accompanied by a revamped and voice acted New Player Experience. However, most people probably equate it with the release of Engineering Complexes, citadel-like stations that are designed to take over the role of moon-anchored POSes for industry players. The update also sees changes to off-grid boosting, possibly leveling the small-gang PvP playing field to something more manageable for new players. We at IN are excited about the upcoming changes and will update you with analysis once we could test them in the game.
For now, we have a trailer. What are your thoughts – does it reflect properly on EVE and will it bring in an until now untapped demographic of players? Discuss in the comments below.
