CCP has announced the upcoming release of their newest game EVE:Gunjack, a VR arcade shooter for the Samsung Gear VR set in the universe of EVE Online.
In Gunjack, players will assume the role of a turret gunman aboard an Outer Ring mining ship whose goal is defend the mining operation against waves of incoming pirates. The fast-paced action seems non-stop in this immersive first person shooting defense game which aims to test your shooting skills against a relentless onslaught. In the trailer we see a fast paced and action packed arcade style shooter with power-ups and Galaga-esque waves of enemy ships.
Gunjack has been built from the ground up using the Unreal 4 engine and promises to deliver “the ultimate VR experience” in what CCP are calling “a full-immersion first-person shooter.” Using the new Samsung Gear VR, EVE:Gunjack aims to offer players “stunning visuals, dazzling clarity and panoramic views of the action occuring in space around the player.”
Gunjack will be joining the ranks of the many titles by CCP set in the EVE Online universe including: The FPS Dust 514, The dog-fighting simulator EVE:Valkyrie, and of course, EVE Online. Accorindg to CCP Falcon in the promotional blog, “Gunjack will give another window into the lives of those who inhabit the cold, dark, dystopian world of New Eden.”
It has been stated that Gunjack is to be released at the time of the official launch of the Samsung Gear VR platform, however those anxious to try it will be able to attend one of the many upcoming EVE gatherings to feature it: #EVE_NT, EVE Paris, EVE Berlin, EVEsterdam, EVE Vegas, EVE London and EVE Down Under.
