Alliance Tournament XVII: Brackets Update!

Over the course of the last week, CCP have dropped multiple updates regarding Alliance Tournament Seventeen! First came a combination livestream and dev-blog update on August 20. There, CCP discussed the various alliances who made it into the event, told us how much PLEX was submitted overall, and even covered a major change in the tournament format. They followed up on August 25 with the opening of AT17 advert applications. Those advertisements will play throughout the tournament.

The livestream was done bingo-style on CCP’s twitch channel—you can find CCP’s VOD here—and was hosted by CCP Aurora and CCP Antiquarian. CCP Convict was in the background, filling in the specific brackets on CCP’s challonge.com community, albeit with some initial confusion. Barring the minor livestream hiccups (We still love you, Convict), you can find the Feeder bracket here, and the Main bracket here.

The advertising announcement comes with a set of guidelines for all submissions to follow. Some of the key points to hit are: make sure your submission is exactly 15 seconds long; adverts must be EVE-related; adverts must be suitable for broadcast; adverts must reflect positively on EVE. The full list of advert submission guidelines can be found here, and I hope we see a ton of great adverts!

Starting With The Numbers

This year’s AT came in as the second-most-subscribed Alliance Tournament ever, with a grand total of 75 (SEVENTY-FIVE!) alliances signing up to be involved and compete for some fantastic prizes. Those submissions happened with a grand total of more than 618,000 PLEX submitted as part of the blind auction.

This breakdown sees a total of 24 alliances provided immediate access to AT XVII by invite or silent auction bid. The remaining 51 alliances are entered into the Feeder tournament, which pits those alliances in a series of sudden-death matches.

The Feeder event will take place on the ‘Thunderdome’ tournament server, and all teams will have access to that server for practices in the coming weeks—consult your captains for further details. The Feeder event brackets have also been published, and they are punishing. More scheduling details are expected to be posted soon.

The Bracket Details

The sheer scale of alliances involved has required a major shift in both the feeder and main tournament format; the Feeder tournament will now see teams compete in a single-elimination bracket until sixteen teams remain. Those sixteen teams move forward to the main alliance tournament, shifting the main bracket from 32 to 40 teams.
