17 Rorquals along with a single fax and sub-capital support were destroyed today in what appears to be e-peen waving gone wrong. The slaughter happened in the GZ1-AI system in Impass, owned by Requiem Eternal. The Rorquals belonged to two players, Hyperion Kado and Captain Levasseur. Hyperion took to Reddit to explain what happened and to give an AAR:
Hyperion stated that it started when he logged on and found out that a 40 man Imperium bomber fleet was on the hunt in the local area. Their hunter entered the system and dropped on seven Rorquals inside the ice belt. The Rorquals swiftly dispatched the hunter, and the bomber fleet withdrew and started to primary local with shit talking.
From this point, a series of mistakes were made. Hyperion decided to display a show of strength by undocking his fleet of Rorquals and warping them to the ice belt, without first removing the excavator drones from his hold. For the next 20 mins, the Imperium bombers sat and watched the fleet of 17 Rorquals. Due to the proximity of the Rorquals to one another in the belt, Hyperion did not deploy his depots. Captain Levasseur however, had the forethought to put his drones into his depots.
The Imperium fleet cyno’d out and the system was clear. At this point Hyperion makes his final mistake and fails to dock up. During the 20 min stand-off time, he speculates that Hard Knocks had moved a fleet into location and was ready to drop onto the Rorquals. “Out of nowhere” a HK Tengu lands and lights a cyno, bridging in a fleet full of Sleipnirs and Sabres. Hyperion and Captain Levasseur were confused where they came from, and hastily tried to clear off the Sabres but swiftly lost their trigger Lokis.
At this point a call for help goes out on Discord. This is dismissed due to them mining during an deployment. With no sign of help coming, the Rorquals activate their PANIC modules. As the PANIC timers end, word comes that Legacy have started to mobilise a response fleet, but it’s already too late. Hyperion starts to self destruct his Rorquals, as 5 out of 7 of Captain’s Rorquals had already died.
The final toll comes in at 176 billion lost, and an expensive lesson in hubris was learned for the determined mining duo.
