The Scope has released a new broadcast reporting on the Amarr Empire’s release of “new shield technology” to capsuleers. The new shield generators make structures and substructures alike “virtually impenetrable”, and are “based on the same technology exclusively reserved for CONCORD, to protect stargates and stations in Empire space”. This is probably why releasing it is breaching a “CONCORD treaty” and has angered the CONCORD Inner Circle. The reporter, Alton Haveri calls the move “an attempt to bring hostilities in Nullsec space to an end” motivated by “the growing likelihood of a Drifter invasion”.
There are a couple things going on here that might not be obvious. Presumably the widespread adoption of this new technology is what will justify in lore the changes to the Nullsec sovereignty system that have been called “fozziesov”. After those changes, stations and some substructures will indeed become invulnerable to conventional weaponry, and will only be captured by ships that shoot the new Entosis Link module at them. The broadcast does show Amarr vessels salvaging a wreck beside a Drifter observatory, which would suggest this shield system is not unrelated to the development of the Entosis Link, which is Drifter technology and will be built from “antikythera elements” salvaged from Drifter Battleships and Circadian Sleepers.
The video shows an Impel transport carrying the shield technology to a station out in 9-B1DS [0.5, Branch] for installation, presumably “9-B1DS II – Totty’s Technical Institute” the only station in that system. Someone should go out there and see if it’s working yet!
The predicted “drifter invasion” probably foreshadows more of the new Drifter content that has slowly been being introduced to the game, including new tremendously powerful NPC battleships, new structures, and new wormholes. Many references are also made in the news ticker on the video to the last Scope broadcast, which showed the inside of a drifter wormhole and the Drifter invasion fleet contained therein.
Other fun stuff from the news ticker: mention of the new Gallente Tech 3 Destroyer (the “Hecate”), “The Red Gardener”, the Amarr militia’s recent losses in Faction Warfare (Minmatar Faction Warfare is now Tier 4), and Test Alliance’s move to Wicked Creek.
The video ends with speculation about the health of Empress Jamyl Sarum, leader of the Amarr, who has not been seen in public for a while. This might be because she has another entity, “The Other”, sharing her mind, a fact often discussed on The Hydrostatic Podcast, which is a great resource for those interested in this kind of lore and has a podcast out about the last Scope video.
