PAPI’s Retreat Daily Report: Days 1-7

2021-08-09

Header Art by Major Sniper

On Monday, August 2, after their last push into the O-EIMK constellation, all members of the PAPI coalition announced the cessation of their attack on the Imperium and a general withdrawal from Imperium space. In the days since then PAPI’s original plan for a disciplined, phased withdrawal has dissolved into a rout.

As of this writing (early Sunday morning, August 7, EVE time) the Imperium has already retaken every IHUB in Delve except three as well as every IHUB in “fake” Querious.

Due to the fast-moving nature of events, traditional reporting of battles and engagements is not rapid enough to provide an accurate picture of how the retreat is developing. To address this, INN will be providing a daily summary of major events, including timer updates and kills.

Please note: this series does not (at present) include any tracking of the high- and low-sec ganking that has been occurring since August 2 and the PAPI announcements. In the last seven days, more than half a trillion ISK (yes, you read that right) in freighters and jump freighters has been ganked. We will endeavour to give you the highlights in our ongoing daily updates. As a further reminder – Miniluv kills more than your coalition!

Pending Timers as of 19:30 EVE, August 8.

The following are pending timers (armor or hull) on PAPI structures in Delve, Querious, Fountain, and Period Basis.

Ansiblex: 3
Astrahus: 29
Athanor: 117
Azbel: 12
Fortizar: 64 ( Faction Forts: 2)
Keepstar: 9
Raitaru: 32
Sotiyo: 14
Tatara: 24

Day 1: Monday, August 2

PAPI makes one final sub-capital push into the O-EIMK constellation and is soundly defeated. During the battle Test and other PAPI alliances began unanchoring structures across Delve, Querious, Fountain, and Period Basis. Following the battle, multiple PAPI alliances announce the end of offensive actions and a general retreat.

The Imperium begins reinforcing PAPI Jump Bridges, Structures, and IHUBs.

Notable PAPI Losses:

A Tengu fleet and many other subcaps
1 Carrier (2.86 billion) (Delve)

Day 2: Tuesday, August 3

Less than 24 hours after PAPI’s failed last push and the announcement of a general retreat, the Imperium puts the bulk of PAPI’s jump bridge network out of action by reinforcing the bulk of their Ansiblex Jump Gates across Delve, Querious, Fountain, and Period Basis.

Constant hacking of PAPI IHUBs continues, setting up an enormous number of timers for later in the week.

PAPI Jump Bridges Destroyed:

39P-1J (Delve)
SVM-3K (Delve)
5-CQDA (Delve)
BX-VEX (Querious)
XF-TQL (Fountain)

Notable PAPI Losses:

1 Freighter (3.17 billion) (Delve)
2 Carriers (9.15 billion) (Delve)
1 Force Auxiliary (3.71 billion) (Delve)

Day 3: Wednesday, August 4

The Imperium destroys the many jump bridges reinforced on Tuesday and reinforces most of the rest. IHUB hacking continues with the first timers set to come out Thursday. Structures across the warzone are reinforced to stop their unanchoring timers.

PAPI move-ops ongoing, mostly undisrupted.

Day 4: Thursday, August 5

The first IHUBs are reclaimed by the Imperium. Jump bridge mop-up work continues. Hacking and structure reinforcement continues across Delve, Querious, Fountain, and Period Basis.

Day 6: Saturday, August 7

An even greater number of IHUBs taken today, most of them in the regions outside of Delve. INIT makes massive inroads in Fountain, and the Imperium flips most of the IHUBs in “Fake” Querious, solidifying their hold on Delve. PAPI citadel deaths rapidly increase.

Thanks for this Gwailar. It really brings into focus how much work has been done this last week

The “Isk Win” narrative dries up with some of these kills… I havn’t paid attention to total losses over the whole year but half a trillion should see that number start sliding towards the red.

    • Phoenix591 Thev Sonata

They’re already 13 trillion(neutral website) in the red. Excluding ganking of their known freighter/jump freighters.

Not sure if the site counts some of the ghost titans or what.

It definitely helps that all their structures are cored

      • Garreth Vlox Phoenix591

Yes, it was awful nice of them to put up and core enough structures that we won’t need our own cores when setting up the stations to replace theirs.

From an accounting standpoint I heavily object to including kills made by third parties such as dreadbomb Keepstar kill to any tally as nobody was tracking dreadbomb losses through the entirety of the war. Just a technical point of view on it.

It doesn’t matter who killed it, if they are in the war it matters because it’s yet another asset they no longer have.

    • Hammerlock Thev Sonata

Especially when you consider a lot of these kills will be slicing away directly on TEST’s asset reserve–both alliance and line member. If nothing else, most of TEST just took a 15% chop to the neck of their net worth, and with every suitcase capital or freighter killed some are losing everything.

Isk war is a BS concept used to try to keep morale high. If you and your enemy have 10t and 100t respectively, you actually have to achieve 10x the damage to do the same percent towards the total, but that isn’t the only issue if all you are caring about is damage done then the fact that if their income still exceeds your damage you ain’t done anything to them.

During the EE Fountain war TF claimed every day they were winning the isk war, but within 1 month they started to collapse due to the fact, that us pantheon guys focused on hitting infrastructure not outposts that didn’t really do much at the time. Long story short pantheon and TM (now a part of pantheon) were handling our SRP within seconds of an op and TF was reduced to having weeks of back log SRP because their indy was destroyed. You can lose the “ISK war” everytime and still dominant the actual war if the effective damage is still in your favor. Just as TF thought they were winning because the did more isk worth of damage, so did sapi. We need to bury the concept of winning by damage dealt, because it is the worst way to measure how well each side is doing.

I really wish someone had kept a proper running tally. There was one going but the dude running it gave up in September last year.

Fozie sov works very fast when nobody contests at all which I guess is great cuz it cleans space relatively fast. Imperium progress of delve/querious is slightly faster than when TEST flipped provi away from PL at the outpost change.

      • Deni'z von Meanace Nate Hunter

PL is too elite to hold any sov ))

Those were the days, weren’t they? I’m old enough to remember when alliances would stand down fleets if they heard PL might show up. Now, on the rare occasions they do show up, we all just point and laugh.

But I thought the narrative was that we didn’t defend our space at all? Floodplains and all that.

        • Garreth Vlox The Slayer

Yeah that’s the best part of this all, watching all that work fall in 7 days uncontested after they spent a year plus wailing about how we weren’t fighting back…

I seem to remember a Bible lesson from Sunday School about a man who set out to construct a tower. He laid the foundation and built half the tower before realizing he couldn’t finish it because he hadn’t considered what it would cost him. Then all his neighbors mocked him for his failure.

Seems an appropriate analogy for PAPI.

    August 9, 2021 at 11:31 AM
  • It looks like PAPI lost 115 customs offices in Delve as well. It was a busy week.

  • Carvj94

I thought there was no way Imperium would retake sov in under 2 weeks but clearly I was totally wrong. I expected organized fleets going from system to system on a tight schedule. Instead there’s a few fleets running several hours a day focusing on strategic targets while the majority is essentially a free for all with everyone trying to get as many kills as possible. So many of these structure kills are essentially just a handful of goons in whatever ships they wanted to bring.
