On August 12, American Express announced a new partnership with Riot Games to give in-game rewards to League of Legends players who use an American Express Serve® Prepaid Account. The new rewards system has been named RP+ and gives gamers Riot Points (RP) for signing up and for every qualifying purchase made with the card.
If you sign up for RP+, you have the option of getting a customized League of Legends card with four champions to choose from: Teemo, Vi, Luz, or Twisted Fate. If those don’t appeal, you can choose the Summoners Cup or the League of Legends logo. Each card comes with original art from the game itself.
As for the rewards, you receive:
- 1,000 RP when you complete the registration.
- 1,000 RP the first time you load $20 on to your account.
- 10,000 RP the first time you use direct deposit to add $20 or more to your account.
- 1,000 RP for the first 10 purchases with your card at 100 RP per purchase.
After the first 10 purchases, there is a scale based on how much you spend with the RP amount increasing per $3 spent:
- Up to $3 – 1 RP
- $3.01 – $6.00 – 2 RP
- $6.01 – $9.00 – 3 RP
- $9.01 – $12.00 – 4 RP
The scale continues on in this fashion without a stated limit, and according to the fine print, this card does not have any hidden fees. On the other hand, however, it can take up to 30 days before you start to see the RP in your account, so be sure to check everything out for yourself.
In addition to the new card, American Express has also become an official partner of the League Championship Series and the official partner for the World Championship. The card is available from August 14 with banner ads on the LCS site. A 30-second video has been created by American Express to explain the card’s benefits which will screen from the same date.
