In The Citadel on August 19 at 19:45 EVE time in the Erila system, an inertia stabilized Avatar piloted by Enuil was destroyed when Project Mayhem engaged the intrepid Avatar pilot. Unfortunately for said pilot, inertia stabilizers did not allow them to escape in time.
The attackers arrived with a standard titan kill doctrine, using a pair of Moroses to deal most of the damage. Additional support was provided by a pair of Naglfars, two carriers, and a smattering of other ships.
The gratuitous number of inertia stabilizers filling the lows slots warrants some explanation. It’s possible that the pilot figured more modules equates to better performance, and that having so many would allow him to warp away or align very quickly. The reality is that stacking penalties apply exponentially; the more of a module you fit, the less total effect you gain from said module.
The secrets of this meta remain elusive, as the titan pilot was not accepting conversations after the Avatar went down.
I was able to get in touch with the individual who scanned down the titan and lead the attack against it.
Xenuria > Can you tell me how everything happened?
Taine Aurgnet > jumped in, warped out, scanned down while exiting warp
Taine Aurgnet > Deckloacked, pointed and killed
Taine Aurgnet > basically that’s it
Xenuria > When you noticed that the titan had low slots filled with inertia stabs, how did that make you feel?
Taine Aurgnet > it made me laugh hard
Taine Aurgnet > more than 4 istabs are pointless
Xenuria > Can you speculate as to the goal behind such a fit?
Taine Aurgnet > im afraid no
It’s worth note that this titan was using large rigs instead of capital rigs, meaning this titan existed before the changes to rig sizes. Additionally, the corp description for Stahlsturm shows information outdated by at least 2 years, given the corp histories of listed directors. What was this titan doing, and where was it going? TMC has reached out to what remains of Stahlsturm, and will update as new information becomes available.
