CCP Rise recently posted his responses to common questions and statements concerning the New Player Experience, or NPE, on the EVE forums and Reddit. In it, he discussed things such as the Opportunities system and the skillpoint wall new players face.
Concerning the Opportunities system, he admitted it was not as effective as hoped. CCP will be testing new versions of it in the next few weeks.
CCP Rise then discussed the Career Agents. Veteran players say to just go to them and CCP Rise agrees that new players should visit them. A plan including Career Agents being part of the Opportunities system was mentioned.
Afterwards, the skillpoint barrier to new players was discussed. Many skills that take oppressive amounts of time for a new player to finish are essential to any player and CCP RIse recognizes the problem. He talked about giving new players between one and two million skill points to start off – nearly 20 to 40 times the amount now. In addition, he said CCP would avoid major skill reworks.
Lastly the attribute system was addressed. It was suggested that attributes are boring and unneeded, and CCP Rise agrees. However, a good way to fulfill this is yet to be fully discussed and decided upon, and CCP is open to suggestions.
