E3 2019 – Nintendo

Nintendo ran the last conference of E3, and as usual it was a tight show that managed to stuff a ton of gaming content into only 40 minutes! Nintendo’s relentless march of back-to-back trailers cuts to the quick of all the gaming content we want to see, but winds up sucking the excitement out of most of what they announce. This year, only a few games stuck out of the crowd of trailers they aired. Most faded into the background of “the rest”.

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

There are going to be two updates for Smash in the near future. This summer, Dragon Quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition characters are making their way into the game. Then later this fall, Banjo Kazooie characters are coming to the game.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Fans of Luigi’s Mansion will be happy to know that the third entry in the series is coming out at some point this year. Unfortunately, the only date given was a nebulous “2019”, so who knows exactly when it will drop.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition

It’s worth mentioning that this game is going to be making it’s way to the Switch. The game is huge, so I’ll be interested to see how all of that content is crammed onto one of those tiny little Switch cartridges!

Pokemon Sword/Shield

The next addition to the Pokemon saga will be available on November 15 of this year. And apparently, owners of the Pokeball controller should be able to do something special with it. Supposedly, if you load a Pokemon onto it and carry it around, something special might happen. The video below will take you straight to the info presented.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

This was probably the biggest announcement Nintendo made during their conference. They didn’t provide anything other than a brief trailer, and there’s no mention as to when it may be coming out, but the sequel to Breath of the Wild is in development.

The Rest

As mentioned above, Nintendo blazed through a ton of games during their conference. Apologies in advance for the insane list below:

  • Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Tactics (coming 2019)

Big Things in a small package?

It’s always great to see how much Nintendo brings to their consoles, but I was hoping for a little bit more this year. It’s been a while since they teased the next Metroid game, so I expected to see something about it this year. That said, the Zelda sequel was an absolute surprise. And considering how good Breath of the Wild is, a pleasant one at that. Either way, Switch owners should have a blast with everything that’ll be heading for the console at the end of this year and into next.
