TMC’S WEEK IN REVIEW

It’s been an interesting and extremely controversial week here at TMC HQ. Much of what has been published this week has led to intense debate from within and without, but its content that we’re glad to have up. As always, we stand behind our people, and aim to deliver the best to our readers.

EVE ONLINE

Our newest writer, Baculus Orden, kicked off his writing career with a bang. After reporting on SpaceMonkey’s Alliance’s amicable departure from the Imperium, we published his original submission to us before being taken onboard: How IWI Made Criminals out of CCP and Me. It set a tone for controversial news lasting the whole week, and few other articles on TMC have been so controversial – or so well-commented.

IWantIsk’s head, Eep, responded to the article shortly afterwards. We published his response, which continued the discussion and produced a positive reaction from people on either side of the issue. On behalf of the editorial team, thank you very much for getting this to us, and giving us the opportunity to provide a more complete story for all our readers.

The Mittani released the latest GSF alliance update, offering a bit of insight into the Imperium’s attitude towards the ongoing conflict in terms of objectives, opinions on sov warfare, and more.

SMA wasn’t the only alliance to break off this week. FCON departed the Imperium shortly after the GSF alliance update went live. Much like SMA, FCON will be retaining ally standings with the Imperium.

It wasn’t just alliances making a splash in their exit, however. Lemba made waves after leaking Imperium logs this week and exiting the Imperium loudly. However, he will continue to write for TMC, and has spoken out about his reasons for the move – and his future with the site.

Following this pressure and shifts in perception, the eye of the public fell to our EVE bureau chief Matterall. There seemed to be a perception that, behind the scenes, we are labouring under an Orwellian regime – accusations that were soundly and humorously rebuffed in this rather positive installment of The Razor’s Edge. Matterall has been a great fit with the team since coming aboard, and both myself and the rest of the TMC staff are looking forward to the work ahead.

GSF’s video department offered its commentary on the war over footage from Enemy at the Gates. Another submission, this time an opinion piece from a regular member of GSF, went over the shift in Imperium culture and what it means to be a Goon.

This week wasn’t all about massive metagame debates and discussions – there was plenty of space war to go around, as Lemba reported with this 120B ISK battle report from the Kamela system. As Lemba said in his statement, there is more to EVE than news in the north, which we are more than happy to share with the world.

As the weekend came in, Anschau summarised the ongoing conflict in this war update. If you’re looking for the complete picture of recent events, look no further!

The International Business Times ran an article on EVE called ‘Eve Online’: The Battle For Control Of The Most Boring Video Game In The World. As you can imagine from the title alone, this was not terribly well-received by EVE players. Arrendis summarised the article, and many frustrations with it in his response and rebuttal.

Lastly in EVE news this week, TMC video producer Zettia took a break from producing World of Warships content to go over sov warfare.

IT’S FULL OF STARS

Star writer Set’s Chaos returned to kick off our non-EVE coverage this week with a preview of Kerbal Space Program 1.1. The long-awaited update features enhancements to the game’s physics engine and 64-bit support. This makes larger constructions much more practical, as friend of the site Scott Manley found out in the video embedded at the start of the article.

This Week in Space started off a little differently: a question from the community about how exoplanets are discovered was answered first. After that fascinating bit of astronomy knowledge, we got to learn about the Kepler 2 mission’s recovery, SpaceX successfully landing a Falcon 9 booster at sea, and a joint venture to launch a series of tiny probes at Alpha Centauri within our lifetime. An absolute must-read.

Expect more non-EVE news in this coming week, including more gaming news, reviews, and other fun things. As always, if you have anything that you think would be a good fit for the site, drop us a line at [email protected]!
