Another Alliance Tournament frigate has been destroyed. This time it was a Chremoas in the nullsec region of Syndicate.
Shoulda’ Bought a Titan…
This is the eleventh Chremoas to be destroyed since they were given out as the Alliance Tournament XI prize to the top four teams. The Chremoas is a special edition Angel Cartel covert ops frigate. It gets all of the standard bonuses and benefits from being covert ops, including being able to use a Covert Ops Cloaking Device. On top of that, it gets a sizable bonus to relic and data analyzers and scanning probe strength. Most notable are the bonuses to small projectile turrets. Minmatar Frigate level V and Gallente Frigate level V are both required to fly this ship and add to the already sizable role bonus.
Minmatar Frigate level V gives a 50% bonus to small projectile turret optimal range and falloff. Gallente Frigate level V gives a 75% bonus to small projectile turret tracking speed. Both of these large bonuses come on top of the 200% bonus to small projectile turret damage given by its role. All of these factors together create a stealthy ship that can really pack a punch. Unfortunately, this was not enough for the pilot that lost one today.
What Happened?
So far it is not entirely clear as to what happened. It appears that the pilot just received the frigate, and was not a long-time owner. The Chremoas was destroyed by two other frigates, an Astero and a Harpy, but the exact circumstances are still unclear. There have been reports that the Harpy was used to bait the Chremoas while the Astero laid in wait. As soon as the Harpy engaged, the Astero uncloaked to add more tackle and DPS. The pilot has said that he was expecting a 1v1 and that he was using “Keep at Range” set to 500m (the reason this is an ALOD). We have reached out to both sides in this story, but have had no response from them yet.
We do know that this is not the first time this has happened. The same character lost another Chremoas just over a year ago to The-Culture. This time around, his fit was a little cheaper. Also, he didn’t bother with a High-grade Snake pod the second time. Instead, he went for incomplete +5 set. Who needs that Social Adaption Chip anyway?
