Jita, despite being the largest trade hub in New Eden, is also incredibly dangerous for anyone as it is a favorite spot of gankers. And despite the best efforts of many haulers and traders, they often meet their end here in the Costco of New Eden. This is one of those stories.
I have a CEO who tells me that if you are hauling more than a billion ISK in anything within the Forge region, you are probably going to get ganked, and it is all your fault. These two, with their wallets combined, lost more than 40 Billion ISK in various items to Goonswarm Federation and their assisting forces. Upon the writing of this story neither side could be contacted for comment.
Upon looking at the killmails, one would immediately laugh and recoil in horror at one freighter carrying 42 Geckos. Personally, I question the sanity of anyone undocking with the entire Gurista Fighter fleet in their cargo hold, especially considering that no frieghters have drone bays. Whether this was some very expensive movie reference or the machinations of a frustrated trader is beyond us at TMC. However, this was spared by the loot fairy, to the relief of everyone involved most likely. Also involved were 7 Nighthawk Command Ships, several T3 cruisers, including 14 Tengus claimed by the loot fairy, and their components, three leopards, and several hundred million in fuel blocks of the Minmatar variety. I also mourn for the Festival Lauchers that were part of the wrecks. While worth little ISK, they do hold a special place in my heart.
I question why anyone would undock with anything more than a handful of T3 hulls, but it appears that what happened was both the victims were station traders moving their products from station. However, any person who has even glimpsed upon their overview in Jita would understand that this is a very bad idea at this volume, as the potential for ganking is far too high.
Continuing the analysis of this ouroboros of chucklefuckery, one can see the fits were not designed for surviving a gank. Granted, tanking these freighters would probably not change the outcome, it did make it easier for the gankers in question.
The worst part about this is that it could have easily been avoided had the people in question contracted their stuff to be hauled by someone else. Hell at this point, I am wondering why they didn’t do that.
As always, good job to the gankers. And to the freighter pilots, I hope you recover from this immense loss.
