Saturday Night Swarm
For those of you who are unaware, Saturday Night Swarm is a regular social event hosted by Karmafleet, and is open to any member of the Imperium. Typically beginning at 0200 EVE during the summer months, the SNS fleet lasts until we lose critical mass. The fleet regularly camps the Keberz gate in HED-GP, changing it up every now and again with a drunken highsec gank fleet or slosh-op roam with a guest FC, and there is a constant drive towards finding new forms of entertainment.
Once the in-game fleet finishes up, festivities on comms go on until the last man drops, usually accompanied by round after round of virtual Cards Against Humanity. Additionally, over the last couple of months, there has been a big push to extend SNS into the EUTZ, with a fleet forming from 1930 EVE and operating in a similar fashion to the USTZ fleet but at a different location. All in all, it’s a ton of fun. If you’re an Imperium member who’s never been, I highly recommend it at least once, in whichever TZ you prefer.
Half the fun of SNS is in the fleet shenanigans and just chilling on comms with a hundred or more of your closest corp—and alliance—mates. But on those evenings where the target environment is quiet and kills are trickling rather than flowing, idle drunken minds turn to finding new things to enjoy. In this spirit, a number of USTZ SNS regulars have become very practiced at trawling through Twitch in order to find some of the best streaming entertainment available. One example of this that you may remember is Vadim, an accordion-playing virtuoso who INN covered a few months ago.
Who is: Mind1?
Mind1 is a twitch streamer and DJ from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who plays new games regularly, streams his DJ sets live from Club Fuze on Saturday nights, and is a very recent EVE Online convert. Being the most recent target of SNS viewership, the community has returned to his Twitch stream week after week to be entertained with club mixes and have some fun at the same time.
In fact, Club Fuze was so quiet on June 2 that Mind1 did a three-and-a-half hour set (alongside his wonderful co-DJ E-Clyps, with an honourable mention to the fun-loving bartender) purely for his Twitch viewers. The most wonderful part of this broadcast, however, was this remix, posted to reddit by Karmafleet pilot Wulkans – a club version of Goonswarm anthem Little Bees. Mind indulged us by playing it twice during his stream, and both times, comms quieted right down to sit and listen.
I want to leave you all with this quote from incumbent CSM candidate Innominate: “If the people of the 70s and 80s who laid the foundations of what would become the internet knew that this is what we would do with it, would they still have done it? I wager if they knew, we’d be here a decade sooner.”
Truly, the world can sometimes be a truly amazing place.
