Is Test Next Yet?

Art by Cryo Huren

Since the beginning of Beeitnam, the Imperium’s response remained absolute and unchanging. We will not surrender. Good luck with fighting us with overwhelming odds, and TEST is NEXT. This represented an enormous change in long standing Imperium policy, which aimed at punishing former Band Of Brothers supporters, groups, and players which had reformed into new organizations. The aim of their new infinite vengeance was now TEST.

The Cost of Beeitnam

Beeitnam was one of the longest, most costly conflicts in the history of Eve Online. The significant changes to mining and industry in the last few years amplify that cost. Groups need large, affordable quantities of resources to achieve their industrial defense goals. Any group does, but large groups need larger quantities. Due to the changes, producing those resources in the necessary quantities is significantly more difficult.

Most of the major powers involved in Beeitnam are either in the middle of costly rebuilding, restructuring, or collapsing. The Legacy Coalition, for years one of the pillars of the galactic balance of power, is gone. TEST live in exile in Outer Passage. BRAVE hold only eight systems in Pure Blind following the war, and many of their pilots have left, or even joined Imperium member The Initiative.

Looking Forward

So now, as The Imperium is well on its way of rebuilding and taking the fight to their enemies, when is TEST next? How long does TEST, in new space on the other side of the galaxy, have to prepare? Back in a November article, The Interim War Period and You, I proposed that it usually takes around 3 years for the largest blocs to rebuild from a major war and launch a new one. Recent events this week have shown that some of the core powers from Beeitnam may be ready… well, now.

PanFam and Fraternity emerged from the war stronger than most. Last week, they began flexing their new found muscle in the Imperium’s direction. A series of battles in Curse, Cloud Ring, Outer Ring saw losses exceeding 100 billion in ships and equipment. These actions almost resemble proxy wars fought by the USA and USSR in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan.

A Short Victorious War

I think perhaps what both sides are looking for is a Short Victorious War.  A moral booster. Something to get combat pilots back in fleet. In January of 1991 the United States led a multinational invasion of Iraq. Its objective: liberate the nation of Kuwait and prevent further Iraqi hostilities. The war concluded before the end of February. Less than 100 hours elapsed after the start of the land invasion of Iraq. All US objectives were achieved with minimal losses over a relatively short period of time.

The Imperium may be gearing up to land on TEST with both feet, and then fight another defensive campaign against PanFam and Fraternity. Or PanFam may be toying with the idea of picking up where they left off, without having to worry about supporting TEST. Either campaign would be risky, and further upset the delicate balance of power in New Eden right now.

TEST betrayed the Imperium twice – in the Fountain War and Beeitnam. There won’t be a third time, and they know it, which is why they moved literally as far away from Delve as possible and surrounded themselves with dubious patrons. Their former space is gone. The four regions PGL insisted they’d inherit are off the table. They killed Legacy Coalition. It’s dead, Jim.

FRT is already farming TEST in Outer Passage. The best strategy for the Imperium might be a large SIG deployment (Welp Squad, Reavers, etc.) to make it absolutely miserable for every TEST pilot to undock rather than all-out war. PanFam will tire very quickly of responding to the TEST batphone ten times a day when they soil themselves every time Asher undocks 70 Cerbs.

I’m personally hoping for an approach more like the war in the north against GOTG when SIGs deployed and applied pressure before an extended time before a full deployment. It was a slow boil that resulted in the Imperium receiving 50 faction forts.

There is nothing more satisfying to me than to watch TAPI continue to bleed numbers in Outer Passage as a pet alliance to PanFam. Even better when TAPI is still being run by the likes of Vily and Piggles while using proxies as mouthpieces.

Personally I hope this “phase” of Vily’s “war of extermination” lasts until the servers go off.

When asked what they will do next TEST told members they will stay in Outer Passage indefinitely which means they so scared to be within reach of the Imperium they won’t even dare try to evict some generic group from free space anywhere else.

Do you know if they have stopped LARPing “the council of wardens”? Or is the delusion still going strong?

No idea since I stopped listening to where that idea cropped up from once they started banning people for just being a member of the Imperium.

In the gulf war IRAQ invaded Kuwait and the force repelled them from Kuwait. The force did not invade IRAQ.

  • I suspect we’re perfectly happy not to launch any strategic campaigns right now… TEST were by far the biggest losers in Beeitnam– their alliance has all but imploded. Why spend all the time and resources to cross the entire galaxy to attempt to hunt a failed group to extinction? Didn’t we just see a grand demonstration of how that sort of thinking is a twofold folly? A: you can’t hunt a video game group to extinction, and B: completely destroying your competitors wouldn’t be good for the game even if it *was* possible. EVE isn’t real life: you don’t want to ensure your complete security by crushing everyone else out of existence… you want to have people to fight. TEST can be next when there’s actually something there to fight.

I don’t think the Imperium could really do anything more to hurt Test right now. Test are at rock bottom scrabbling in the dirt just to survive. Letting them live like this in the gutter is punishment enough. A headshot now would be a mercy. The irony of all this is that Test did this to themselves.

It’s rather shame to be compared with what us army did in Iraq and later what politicians continued with Iraq, nothing to be proud with. But if you continue to compare Imp with US Army o hope it won’t end like the recent 20 year campaign of Afganistan’s presence.

I come back reading this and seeing recent news with TEST as of late. At this rate, in a year’s time, I wonder how many active players will TAPI even have. They’ll probably get rolled over by smaller alliances or blocs if PanFam completely left them to their own devices and kicked them out of Outer Passage.

It is entertaining to see corps fleeing from the sinking TAPI ship.
