High-security incursion runners are usually looked down upon by the Eve community, especially null-security pilots and Reddit aficionados. We are risk-averse ISK collectors who like to bling our ships out in an elitist fashion.
What may come as a surprise is that many of the Incursion communities are run by, and made up of respected members the larger null security alliances…Though I’m obviously using the word “respected” very loosely here. The community I fly with has Goons, Pandemic Legion, Pandemic Horde and many other large Alliances represented in leadership roles.
Eve is a sandbox universe; it is made up of people who like to build sand castles and people who like to knock them down. To log on to Eve is to accept this, and also in many ways to embrace it as one of the fundamental aspects which makes Eve unique and fun.
Incursion runners in high-security space are always susceptible to attack, whether it is being ganked on an incursion gate, when moving all their high value modules and ships between incursions, or by highly inventive means such as Kirra’s smartbombing Apoc True Creation Research Centre (TCRC) trap. There have been several attempts to disrupt the Incursion running communities in the past, and most fail or fizzle out quite quickly. The Incursion running community have got used to it, and the Goons I know in the community quite enjoy it.
I know. We’re a strange bunch.
Making the News
On May 25, we had a gank attempt which was unusual for two possible reasons. The first being that it was an attempt at the Kirra Apoc trap, and the second that we suspect the ganker was trying to publicize and gain notoriety from his fiendish plan.
We had been running sites as normal, other than the fact someone had been dragging the spawns away from their usual positions. This is not really a problem other than hitting the fleets ISK -making efficiency, something that always upsets an incursion fleet, resulting in grumbles and whining.
As I said, there is nothing really unusual about this, but then as the fleet went on, the unusual started to happen. Incursion runners are usually ignored as the cowardly money-printing cravens we are, but out of nowhere an ISD reporter appears in our public channel, apparently looking for a story.
Well you would not ‘Adam and Eve’ it, The very next site is a TCRC, and guess what? Just off the beacon uncloaks a collection of smartbombing battleships. This would usually result in several losses, but the fleet commander’s quick thinking, and quicker action by the fleet members meant that no losses were sustained
Surprisingly, the ISD reporter had left the public channel and lost all interest in the search for news within the Incursion community. It was almost as if he arrived expecting to collect a story to rival what’s published on Imperium News, and to harvest those Incursion tears. The more astute of you will realise that the only way he could have known this was going to happen was that he was informed by the wannabe ganker who was looking to make himself space famous.
Oh how we laughed!
Fly Safe. Or not, however you want.
