Experiences in New Eden

Throughout my first year in New Eden I have experienced many things. I’ve journeyed through the depths of nullsec looking for exploration sites to crack so I can loot their treasures. I’ve roamed around lowsec with other like-minded pirates, looking for things to kill and loot to scoop. I’ve destroyed the Sansha menace during incursions many a time. I’ve roamed throughout all regions of known space searching for DED complexes to destroy, even venturing into the unknown, dangerous space known as wormholes, searching for the bountiful loot present inside the wreaks of the deadly drifter menace. I’ve also done much more mundane things than described there (unbelievable, even some of those things described above are just a tiny bit over-exaggerated). Today, I’ll be going through each region of space I have inhabited (spoiler: It’s all of them) and describing my “Experiences in New Eden”.

Highsec

Ah, highsec. The place where everybody’s New Eden adventure begins. Few fond memories lie here, the land of the hunter and the hunted (aka miner and ganker). Surprisingly my time in highsec was not with any form of ganking group, but it was with my first alliance I ever joined in EVE – Gateway. Whilst now defunct, Gateway and its members were crucial to my EVE development. Their PvP wing teaching me the fundamental basics of PvP in EVE Online, sparking my interest in small-gang PvP with regular forays into low-sec. Without some of the people that I met in Gateway I doubt I’d still be playing – shoutouts to Will Tousain, Maddison Flame and Endo Saissore. You guys rock.

I also spent some time in highsec with Gateway’s industrial wing. I mined for a month or so, which was only made bearable by the fun that was had on comms during this period. Not much money was earnt here, but I made just enough to foray into my next sector of space.

Wormhole Space

A shocker, I know – A player who is only three or four months old at this point venturing into the dangerous unknowns of wormhole space. This may seem like a too young age to enter the dangerous unknown regions of J-space, but adventure was calling. I’d just started watching a youtuber some of you may have heard of known as WingspanTT, EVE character name Chance Ravinne. His adventures in wormholes fascinated me, inspiring me to train into a stealth bomber ASAP and join his training corporation, Wingspan Academy.

My first night in Wingspan was great; we killed a few battleships, a super blingy Tengu and I had this rather embarrassing loss (I had more ISK than sense). From there on, however, I got rather bored of the nomadic lifestyle, not basing out of any specific location and using an Orca to haul around my bombers and my Stratios to wherever we were staging out of today. It was after a month in Wingspan that I decided to move into a wormhole permanently, I joined a corporation that was then called Deep Space Travel Agency but soon rebranded to Imminent Collapse. These guys were a group of people from Wingspan, including the CEO of the training corp, who decided to splinter off and live in a wormhole themselves. This is where the most fun I’ve ever in EVE Online took place. I made the most ISK here, I had the best fights here, it was just all round a great time. I learnt how not to suck at flying cloaky stuff, I learnt how to scan effectively, I learnt how to solo run c3 sites in a Gila, and most importantly I learnt how to build the most powerful ship in EVE Online – friendship. I made a friend who I am good friends with out of the game too, which was great. However, I was playing so much during this period that I burnt myself out of wormhole space, and decided to try something new. I bid by corpmates and friends adieu – for now – and ventured off to supposedly “the best area of space”.

Nullsec

Eh I don’t honestly have much to say about this area of space. I was there for a month in a corporation called Concordiat, within the Spaceship Samurai alliance.  Sure, there were some good fights, but I felt too much like an F1 monkey, flying ships like 10mn worms where all you do is assign drones to the FC and approach him. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I can understand why people would enjoy nullsec, but it’s not for me. Also, screw 100mn VNIs.

Wormhole Space… again

Sure as anything, after leaving nullsec I didn’t know where to go. My friend convinced me (she would not give up) to join back with I-CO. My second experience in wormholes was much like my last, more awesome fights and good ISK, until I-CO “merged” with Scary Wormhole People. Is it a true a merger if not everyone got in? Surprise surprise: I did not have the skill requirements to enter, I was only 9 months old at this point, so I decided to go off and follow the solo PvP life.

Lowsec

This is the point I’m currently at in my EVE “career”, flying solo through lowsec and nullsec looking for good fights. I particularly enjoy flying meme fits, such as this small laser XLASB Rohk, and this Talos. It’s fun but it’s not the same as flying with others. Sure, I’ve flown with Spectre and Bombers Bar many times, but I’m looking to settle down somewhere.

In Conclusion

The most fun I have ever had in EVE Online was in wormhole space, but I don’t think I can go back for a while. The repetitiveness, gets kinda dull, especially when you hate scanning with a passion. As I approach my first EVE birthday, I’m beginning to think about a more permanent future, settling down at a corporation. EVE is great fun with friends and a home.
