‘Call me Basilisk Reign. Four months ago – never mind how long precisely – having a lot of ISK in my wallet and nothing of particular to interest me in k-space, I thought I would fit and fly an officer-fit Nidhoggur.’
And so begins the story of ‘The White Whale’. Basilisk Reign from Lazerhawks (LZHX) was theorycrafting with an old friend when he came up with an ‘infinite capacitor’ fit for a Nidhoggur using officer modules. Capacitor is life for logistics carriers, as their strong tanks while in triage mean it is often neut pressure that proves the breaking point. Using his alt, Ayatrollah Umadi as a pilot, Basilisk Reign started with a base fit and slowly upgraded to more powerful officer modules over time.
The Nidhoggur proved itself in the crucible of combat. The officer fit, combined with excellent piloting and refitting, meant it soon gained a reputation in w-space. Sleeper Social Club (SSC) took particular interest, coining it ‘The White Whale’, and started actively hunting it. In true ‘Moby Dick’ style, things didn’t go to plan, and losses were taken.
The First Sighting
The first enagement was in J154733 on November 15, 2015 at 17:00 EVE. Lazerhawks fielded a 22 man fleet with two dreadnoughts, the (at only partially officer-fit at the time) Nidhoggur, Bhaalgorns and T3 cruisers. Sleeper Social Club fielded a 33 man fleet with one dread, an Archon, Bhaalgorn, Nestor and T3 cruisers. Lazerhawks won with minor losses and five billion ISK lost on the SSC side.

Second Engagement
The second engagement occurred in J133923 on January 14, 2016 at 22:00 EVE Time. Lazerhawks fielded a 25 man fleet with a Phoenix, the officer-fit Nidhoggur, Bhaalgorns, Nestor, Vindicator and T3 cruisers. Sleeper Social Club fielded a 24 man fleet with an Archon, Bhaalgorns, Nestor and T3 cruisers. Sleeper Social Club lost 13 billion ISK worth of ships in this attempt, with only minor losses on the Lazerhawks’ side.

White Whale Down
In J222834, on January 16, 2016 at 0:00 EVE time, a massive wormhole brawl saw the 14 billion ISK officer-fit Nidhoggur go down. Lazerhawks fielded a 35 man fleet with two dreads, the Nidhoggur in question, Bhaalgorns and T3 cruisers. Sleeper Social Club fielded a 33 man fleet with two dreads, Bhaalgorns, a Nestor, Guardians and T3 cruisers. Lazerhawks lost a total of 22 billion ISK, and Sleeper Social Club lost 30 billion ISK. The White Whale was the main target, and the SSC hunting fleet went in fully committed.

The White Whale 2: Electric Boogaloo
TMC asked Basilisk Reign if he planned on flying an officer-fit Nidhoggur again in the future. “At this moment I am unsure, I have started working on building a new nid … a fellow director of mine is in the process of building his own as well, even better than the one that died,” he said.
We thank Basilisk Reign for his videos and interview, and Herman Melville for Moby Dick. Pilots were contacted from SSC, but have not replied at the time of publication.
